VA MISSION Act Gives Veterans More Options for Urgent Care

Our deserving veterans now have more options for immediate medical services with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs MISSION Act’s latest benefit. As of June 6, 2019, eligible VA members can visit urgent care centers in the VA’s contracted network of community providers to receive same-day medical care for non-life-threatening issues like sinus infections, skin rashes, and sprained ankles at no additional out-of-pocket cost.

Taking advantage of this benefit is simple! Here’s how it works:

  1. Visit an in-network urgent care center. To be eligible, you must be enrolled in the VA health care system and have received services from a recognized community provider or the VA within the past two years. You can call your local VA medical facility or check the VA website to see what urgent care centers are in-network in your area, but no authorization from the VA is needed prior to your urgent care visit.
  2. Let your urgent care provider know that you are using this VA benefit.
  3. Receive the medical care you need!
  4. Your urgent care provider will send the bill to the VA’s Third Party Administer (TPA). The VA may send you a bill for any copayment, if applicable.
