Getting Safe Urgent Care During The COVID-19 Pandemic

Getting Safe Urgent Care During The COVID-19 Pandemic

AUGUST 2020 - Don't let the pandemic keep you from seeking the urgent care you need. At Affinity Urgent Care, we're providing tips to keep you safe while visiting our locations.

Here are some things to keep in mind as you prepare for your visit.

  1. Don't forget your facemask. In the face of illness or injury, it can be hard to remember details like an insurance card, let alone a face mask. Make sure you grab enough for everyone before heading out the door.
  2. While at the office, avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. If you're dealing with allergies or a runny nose, this can be tough. Carry tissues with you to avoid the temptation of spreading germs to your face.
  3. Maintain social distancing. Once in the waiting room, maintain distance as much as possible. Even your healthcare providers will use distance whenever possible to keep you and themselves safe.
  4. Wash your hands often. As often as possible, wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds, or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

Of course, not every medical issue requires an in-person visit. In response to COVID-19, we’ve made it possible to consult with one of our extensively trained and experienced clinicians “face-to-face” via your smartphone, tablet, or computer. Telehealth isn’t appropriate for every case, but it can be used to provide treatment guidance for many patients with common, non-life-threatening health concerns, such as:

  • Urinary tract infections
  • Colds and the flu
  • Sinus infections
  • Allergy symptoms
  • Cough
  • Nasal congestion
  • Headaches
  • Digestive problems
  • Pink eye (conjunctivitis)
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Minor burns and rashes

With telehealth services from Affinity Urgent Care, you’ll be able to discuss your symptoms with one of our clinicians, find answers to your questions, and receive a personalized treatment plan. If your recommended treatment involves a prescription, we’ll promptly send it to your preferred pharmacy for pick-up.

Of course, if you experience any of these signs or symptoms, go to the emergency room or call 911 or your local emergency number:

  • Heart attack signs and symptoms, including chest pain or pressure; pain in one or both arms, stomach, back, or jaw; shortness of breath; or nausea or lightheadedness.
  • Stroke signs and symptoms, such as a drooping face, arm weakness, or slurred speech. Other signs and symptoms can include sudden numbness, confusion, vision difficulties, difficulty walking, or sudden headache.
  • Fainting, dizziness, or weakness.
  • Head or spine injury.
  • Injury from a car or motorcycle accident.
  • Sudden or severe pain.
  • Bleeding that you can't stop.
  • Severe or long-lasting vomiting or diarrhea.

Not sure if you need to go to the emergency room or hospital? If you're not sure if you should get emergency care, call us at Affinity Urgent Care for advice. Affinity Urgent Care’s team of dedicated medical personnel is always ready to assist you at any one of our urgent care locations in the Houston/Galveston area.

"We have a special needs daughter who needed her foot looked at. Thankful that Affinity accepted her Medicaid first of all. Staff was nice, did not have a long wait, doctor was knowledgeable and understanding with our daughter, which means a lot. She was able to get x-rays done on her foot and received the results before we left. A great place to go on short notice."
"Facility was very clean. Very short wait. The doctor and x-ray tech were great!!"
"Fast and friendly. Was in and out in about an hour, and the PA and nurses were great. Much better experience than the ER."
"The Affinity care clinic in Galveston was wonderful. I walked in Memorial Day (without an appointment) and was seen by a very courteous and helpful staff. I highly recommend them."
"My experience at this urgent care facility was a pleasant one. I brought my daughter in due to an allergic reaction. The staff members there were awesome!"
