Who Needs a DOT Physical Exam?
DOT exams help ensure safe roadways for everyone. You’ll need to receive a DOT physical on a periodic basis (usually once every two years) if you:
- Are paid to drive a vehicle that is built to carry more than eight people
- Drive a vehicle for work or personal purposes that is built to carry more than 15 people
- Drive any vehicle on the interstate with a gross combination weight rating of more than 10,000 pounds
- Are transporting hazardous materials that require the vehicle to have a placard
DOT physical exams are relatively straightforward and consist of a brief review of medical history, a hands-on exam, and a urinalysis to check for signs of common health issues.
