What Does COVID-19 Testing Involve?
A COVID-19 test is performed using a nasopharyngeal swab to screen for an active coronavirus infection. The nasopharyngeal test (the most common method of testing) involves gently inserting a thin, 6-inch long swab into the nostril until it reaches the nasopharynx—the cavity that sits behind the nose. Once enough mucus has been collected, the sample is screened for specific proteins or genetic material related to the virus. Because Affinity Urgent Care offers rapid COVID-19 testing, most patients find out their results on the same day they receive their test.
A COVID-19 antibody test screens for signs of a past infection instead of a current infection. This type of testing involves taking a blood sample and screening it for coronavirus antibodies.
If you suspect that you are currently experiencing coronavirus symptoms, your first step is to give us a call to schedule an in-person or Virtual Visit at one of our three locations. Through our convenient telehealth services, you can speak “face-to-face” with one of our clinicians via your smartphone, tablet, or computer. After evaluating your symptoms, he or she may recommend that you visit us for rapid COVID-19 testing, which will be safely performed inside of our clinic in accordance with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
What Does it Cost?
The Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) and the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) act, requires insurance coverage for COVID-19 testing. Coverage is dependent on insurance plan. The cost for the test without insurance is $220. The cost for an antibody test is $50.
