With flu season approaching, it’s important to visit a medical center to receive your annual flu shot. A flu vaccine can protect you from getting an influenza infection and prevent the flu from spreading within your community. If you need a flu shot or treatment for influenza symptoms, Affinity Urgent Care can help. We offer quality medical care in the Galveston, Texas, area, and we make it easy for children and adults to get flu shots and other medical care.
Seasonal influenza, commonly referred to as the flu, is a viral infection that causes coughing, fever, muscle aches, and other symptoms. The flu usually resolves over several days with at-home care, but some cases may require antiviral medication or other additional treatment to reduce the severity and length of the illness.
Affinity Urgent Care performs testing for influenza and can rule out other infections (such as bronchitis and COVID-19) to determine the best course of treatment for your illness. Once we determine the cause of your condition, our team will provide you with recommendations and a treatment plan to resolve your symptoms as quickly as possible.
However, the best treatment for the flu is prevention. We recommend getting a yearly influenza vaccine to protect yourself from becoming sick during flu season.
The CDC recommends that anyone over six months old should receive an annual flu shot. It’s especially important for the following groups to get a flu shot since they are at higher risk of complications from the illness:
